'Dear Serge' at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on sea - February 2015

Using the powerful resonance of the North Staircase Venetia collaborated with live musicians to celebrate the Celtic festival of 'Imbolic'. Her live painting performance was an intuitive response to the music and the unique space. The earth's awakening was evoked by the heartbeat of shamanic drumming.

Past Shows: 'Artists Unveiled', December 2014 Art Trail, Tunbridge Wells

'Samhain', mixed media 30 x 40", 2014

At Halloween, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest, and we honour death and renewal.  For her performance painting Venetia combined spinning sycamore pods with mixed media to create a dynamic narrative.   In Egypt, the holy sycamore is said to stand on the threshold of life and death connecting the worlds, and the seen to the unseen. The cellophane covering of the canvas was used to manipulate and move the paint, as a metaphor for the veil and the unravelling of ourselves in order to create a space for regeneration.

'To Guise', 2014, film of painting performance

Venetia and Liam Rogers collaborated with this project for the December Art Trail. Venetia often records painting performances, turning the abstract painter’s private performance into a public one. Liam captured her response to Samhain on video, editing the sound and images together in his continued assessment of performance and self- portraiture in video art. This is the first time Venetia has allowed her performance painting to be captured and re-contextualised by a video artist.

'Winter Solstice', mixed media, 30 x 40”, 2014

Painted during a Live Performance with musicians and shamanic drummers at The Corn Exchange, to celebrate the Winter Solstice. A sacred time when the sun stands still and we emerge out of the longest night of the year into the light.
